Release date: 12 Mar 2010

The Hon. Bruce Baird has been tasked with reviewing the Education for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000, and as part of the review, has noted his support for the policy changes outlined by the government in February 2010.

The report commented on the Government policy changes, expressing support for the new policies and the impact they have had on Australian Education.

Under the changes, new International Students will be able to apply for permanent residence, after completing their studies, if their occupation is on the new skilled occupations list.

Students who are currently studying in Australia must apply for a temporary skilled graduate visa by 2012, which will enable them to work in Australia for 18 months. During those 18 months, those students are expected to find an employer who is willing to sponsor them.
