Preparing yourself to apply
Before you complete the application form, you should do some basic preparation. You will need to follow these steps:

| 1. Select the subject/s you wish to study |
- Refer to the Subject Outlines in Online Diploma.
- Choose a maximum of 4 subjects for any one semester.
- If you are working full-time, you are strongly urged to undertake no more than 2 subjects per semester.

| 2. Decide if you require Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) |
- Students are invited to apply for RPL on the basis of:
- previous or current work experience in international education; and/or - formal qualifications in related areas.

3. Read these Course Rules

Admissions
- Admissions are made at the discretion of the PIER Manager and Director of International Education Services (IES) Ltd.
- It is recommended that these 2 subjects be completed first:
- C1: Introduction to International Education; and - C2: Roles and Responsibilities in International Education.
Single subjects
- It is strongly recommended that C1: Introduction to International Education is completed as preparation for any other subject commenced.
- If students undertake single subjects only, a Statement of Attainment will be issued upon request.
Completion
- Students must complete the Diploma course within 4 years of commencement unless special leave has been granted. This is to ensure that graduates maintain their current knowledge and skills.
Leave of absence
- This may be taken with written agreement from the PIER Manager.

| 4. Understand the Refund Policy |
In case of withdrawal...
Prior to the start of a semester
- A full refund is payable up to 12.00pm Brisbane, QLD Time, Friday prior to the commencement of the semester.
After the above deadline
- A full refund less an administration fee of $50 will be payable up to two weeks after the commencement of the semester.
- No refund will be payable if withdrawal is requested more than 2 weeks after the commencement of the semester. Refer to Significant dates 2009 - 2011 for a complete calendar.
Please also note
- Withdrawal and refund requests must be lodged in writing (see Contact details)
- If received after the commencement of the semester, state why the student is withdrawing from or suspending their study. Note that refunds will be at the discretion of the PIER Manager.
Deferment
- Enrolled students may defer a subject, and fees will be carried over to the next semester only. Requests to defer will not be accepted after the end of Week 3 of a semester.
- Deferred fees cannot be refunded. Special circumstances may be considered by the Program Manager.
Specific dates related to the Refund Policy for the current semester are available on the 'Calendar' link, under the 'Online Diploma' section. Furthermore, a reminder email is sent to students prior to the due date.

Completing the online application form
- After you complete the online application form, you will receive a letter of offer within four weeks of receipt of your application. The letter of offer will also formally approve your sequence of study.
- You need to pay the required fees and send us confirmation of payment to accept your offer of a place in the course.
- Upon confirmation of payment you will be sent a student username and password. This will allow you to access your subject materials for the semester when they become available (usually from 5pm, Brisbane time Friday prior to commencement of the semester).
